John B. Molidor, PhD, grew up in a family of 10 children, where he says he learned first-hand about interviewing from sitting around the dinner table!

Assembled around a long dining room table, he describes how each of his siblings, including himself, would be asked some basic questions by his parents (e.g., How was your day? or Did you have a good day?) leading up to more complex ones such as: “What was the best thing that happened to you today … outside of the final bell ringing?” or “What one thing would you change about your day … outside of making the school day shorter?” Both parents were pretty good interviewers.

Basically, he grew up being asked lots of questions. Over the course of time (and meals), he subsequently learned how to answer these questions in an effective and engaging fashion. Interestedly, as things in life sometimes unfold, this lead to his study of and graduate work in cognitive psychology where he became fascinated with how people made decisions about others, how people made screening decisions, and how people interviewed others to make their final choices.

Born in Iowa, raised in Illinois, schooled in Minnesota, and educated in Michigan, he often gets confused about whom to cheer for on Big Ten football weekends. (Not really, he cheers for Michigan State University! He’s a green and white guy.) He’s extroverted by nature, clearly a big-picture type of person, a thinker, and a semi-structured kind of guy.

When he’s not trying to figure out the universe, he can be found at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, where he is a Professor of Psychiatry, a Regional Community Assistant Dean, and serves as the CEO and President for the medical school’s Flint Campus. Prior to being in the land of Flint, he served as his medical school’s Dean of Admissions, Student Affairs, and Educational Programs.

Before he wrote Crazy Good Interviewing: How Acting A Little Crazy Can Get You the Job with Barbara Parus, he taught thousands of people how to be effective interviewers. On the flip side, Crazy Good Interviewing teaches individuals how to be really effective interviewees based on his experience in teaching thousands of people how to master the art of being interviewed and obtain high-stakes positions.
